TRAVEL & OTHER COSTS
Plan on paying from $90-130 per night at one of the hotels in nearby Wells (see ACCESS & LODGING). A few rooms at the B&Bs in Barkerville itself have also been reserved. Book soon as rooms fill up fast here. Please consider sharing rooms and booking for double occupancy to allow all participants access to lodging.
Travel to Wells is by car, 78 km from Quesnel (or 182 km from Prince George) plus another 7 km to Barkerville. Hwy 26 can be slow, so plan on at least an hour to get to Wells from Quesnel, and enough time to check in at your hotel and drive on to Barkerville on Thu Sep 29th. Our registration and reception will take place from 6:00-8:00 pm, with our first event (a panel discussion) taking place at 8 pm sharp.
Barkerville is a high mountain town (elevation 1230m -- the same as the top of Grouse Mtn) and as such has quick weather changes and below-freezing temperatures in September. While the autumn days can be warm, the nights are consistently cold. Bring warm clothing.
It may be possible to have your registration, travel, and accommodation costs subsidized by your local Pro-D funds. Contact your PD Chair about this. Quesnel District teachers: contact PD chair Dawn Rodger <dawnrodger@sd28.bc.ca> about funding. Prince George District teachers: contact PD chair Glen Thielmann <gthielmann@gmail.com> about funding. For PG teachers, this event will be treated as a one-off "in-district" conference and will not factor towards application eligibility for out-of-district travel subsidies.
